Realtime Captioning Services
IR Broadcast Captioning - Realtime Captioning Services

Realtime captioning services are primarily provided for live programming.  These events typically include newscasts, sporting events, legislative programs, or special event programming.  Basically, any broadcast that is a live event can be captioned using realtime services.

The approximate size of the audience that has a hearing loss in the United States is 31.5 million people.  This does not include non-native viewers using captioning to learn English, bars, airports, gyms, or other noisy environments where viewers can only rely on reading the captions to hear your program. Having your program captioned helps to provide an extended reach to viewers in these environments who may not normally view a captioned show.

IR Broadcast Captioning provides our clients with a comprehensive package of services to ensure your captioned programs are accurate and complete.

In a typical one-hour newscast, our captionists may be exposed to over 30 different news items, and each of these stories has their own terminology and unique words.   All the
different words from each story must come out correctly to ensure viewer comprehension.

We strive for a minimum overall accuracy level of 98% for realtime broadcasts.   Off-line productions are 99.9%.  To help keep us maintain this level of accuracy, we ensure our captionists are assigned to the same shows or events on an ongoing basis as much as possible.  The more they continue to write the same type of programming, the more comprehension, knowledge, and understanding they have of arising issues.  The end result, even better captioned content.

This all comes down to preparation.  When our team takes on a new show, it’s our research team that first goes to work and gathers core information about the programming we will do.   Once this information is gathered by the research team, our captionists then start reviewing the information, entering the key words into their dictionaries and testing each new entry to ensure accuracy.  For example, if it’s a sports program, then specifics of that sport, player names, past players, and even future prospects all need to be included.
